Alan Shearer has been instated as Newcastle United’s part time manager for the remaining eight games of the Premier League season.
Shearer has accepted the Geordie faithfuls SOS call to save their club, his club, from the unbelievable fears of championship football.
Newcastle do have a major fight on their hands as they currently sit precariously in the relegation zone. Read more
Should Kinnear return to the Toon?
On Feburary 7 it was revealed that Toon boss Joe Kinnear had been taken ill, suffering chest pains prior to Newcastle Utd’s game against West Brom.
A week later he was undergoing heart surgery and a rest period of around eight to 10 weeks was being mooted.
With Newcastle Chief Executive Derek Llambias telling Kinnear to ‘take it easy’ after his surgery, the question remains as to whether he should ever return to one of the most stressful jobs in football.
Kinnear has said he wants to return in around two months and has pencilled in the the clubs trip to Stoke on April 11 as a possible comeback game.
But should he return to the Newcastle hotseat?
No. This is the second time Kinnear’s health has got in the way of his job and surely it cant continue, it is clear he simply isn’t healthy enough to return.
One heart attack would have been enough for some managers to quit the game altogether, but not our Joe. Yet after this most recent illness it is crazy to think he should return again.
But the stubbornness and fighting spirit of Joe Kinnear has earned him a special place in the hearts of the Geordie public.
Due to this I wouldn’t count out a return from the former Irish international who surely has unfinished buisness on Tyneside.
As much as I would love to see Joe return and help battle the club out of the relagatiuon dog fight, I worrry about his deteriating health.
Coming back from this may just be too much for Kinnear to handle. Newcastle are in big trouble at the moment and have a fixture list that would make any managers heart skip a beat.
The fans however crave stability and wouldn’t want another manager to come through the ever-revolving door at St James’ Park.
Ultimately the decision will have to come down to the club’s infamous owner, Mike Ashley, and Chief Executive Derek Llambias, but a new manager may be the only option.
Whatever happens Kinnear’s health should be put first and I just hope both Joe and the top brass at Newcastle accept this. Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
The Toon vs The Trotters
February 28, 2009 by Meghan Ewart · Comments

Newcastle United will be looking to do the double over Bolton Wanderes when the sides meet at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.
The Toon came out on top with a 3-1 win when the teams last met, and have recently looked more solid, winning once and drawing twice in their last three games.
Keeper, Steve Harper said: “We look to go in full of confidence with five points from three games, we’re looking to get a good result.”
Newcastle will be missing key players including the suspended ex-trotter Kevin Nolan, and injuries will keep out Joey Barton (knee), Habib Beye (Ankle) and Michael Owen (Ankle).
Bolton have been steady this season and are looking comfortable sitting 10th in the Premier League.
Matt Taylor who scored a superb free kick in Bolton’s last game, a 2-1 win against West Ham, is in confident mood.
“We now go into the Newcastle game in a good frame of mind, it’s another home game for us and another one we’ll look to pick up points from,” said Taylor.
Due to their recent form, Bolton Wanderers seem the stronger side, but Newcastle have rallied of late making Sunday’s clash hard to call and well worth a watch.
