Falcon Set To Fly

December 8, 2009 by Kavan Young

the-courteenersWith a gaping whole in the Manchester music scene with the end of Oasis, is 2010 goin to be the year for The Courteeners to come in to play as Manchester’s new mega star band?

With a huge debut album ‘St.Jude,’ under their belt, it was time for that difficult second album attempt. The band have been busy with massive supporting slots for the likes of Morrisey along with there own dates in America and a major slot on the main stage at the 2009 Reading and Leeds festivals all that along with the recording of the new album. It’s certainly been a lively few year for the band.

But they seem to be enjoying this hard working lifestyle as now its back to there beloved Manchester where Liam and the boys are set for the biggest headline gig yet at the Manchester central (G-Mex) to showcase new album titled ‘Falcon’ along with the now well known classics such as ‘Not Nineteen Forever’ and ‘Fallowfield Hilbilly’ to an 11,000 strong mancunian crowd.

It certainly will be a night of celebration of where the band have come so far, and the start of there next big adventure.

We also saw the first glimpse of new album of ‘Falcon’ as the band released a free download from their website called ‘Cross My Heart & Hope To Fly’.

The song is definetly a lot more grown up than the songs on ‘St.Jude’. Liam Fray’s lyrics feel alot more personal.

”Domestic bliss are you taking the piss? I need minute on my own … minute on my own”.

The song just has that  bigger and stronger feel about it. The use of  string sections in the background of the song giving it that added depth. It definitely sounds like it has the potential to be an anthem round venues and festivals in 2010. But is it big enough to handle arenas? I think it might just manage it.

If this song is anything to go by the bands highly anticipated second album cant come quick enough.

The Courteeners definitely have the potential to be the next big band out of Manchester. Many of the bands dedicated followers would argue they already are.

I think 2010 could be the year of The Courteeners.

Cross My Heart & Hope To Fly is available to download for free from The Courteeners website now. Also on the website you can pre-order the new album ‘Falcon’ which is due to be released on 22nd February 2010. Tickets for the UK tour are now on sale.
