Winter is drawing in; the nights are getting colder and the light is fading faster. So I decided to be mildly influenced in this post by autumn/winter fashion and talk the one essential everyone wants to be functional and fashionable: the winter coat. My personal one is several years old now, but just as good. It was £60 from Dorothy Perkins so I intend to get full wear out of it.
However this doesn’t help you in looking for a coat,so let me move on from my coat and help you, dear reader, find you a winter coat. First things first. With a winter coat you don’t want a dull colour (with early nights and rain it’s dark enough out there at this time of year!). Mine is a deep blue but it stands out because its not navy, its more of a royal blue. Plus I like to clash it with a bright scarf.
Colour wise, I’d recommend staying away from colours such as black and navy. Dogtooth is a popular trend this season. Plus if you like print and enjoy being different then,as I’ve mentioned before in this blog, leopard print is back. So maybe now is the right time to invest in a leopard print coat? Both coats pictured here are available from New Look (www.newlook.co.uk)
Also a popular choice is a burst of colour to brighten up the long, dark winter nights. So go for a bright block colour. Dorothy Perkins (www.dorothyperkins.com) have a good few coats in the sale such as the pictured yellow coat and their pink one. Remember a good coat is an investment so whilst the coats in the shops will be trend based pick on you’ll like next year and maybe even the year after that.
Another good thing for a coat to have, or so I find, is a belt incorporated in its design. A belt on a coat is like an extra layer of defence against the elements (wind blowing open your coat?No thanks) Plus it defines your waist meaning the coat doesn’t make you look bulky. Definitely a bonus.
So there you go. I came, I wrote, I linked. Happy coat shopping everybody!
