Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions

333This isn’t ‘Humbug.’ This isn’t ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.’ This isn’t ‘Resistance.’ This is the only album which you truly need this year. Not the way you need that you need that bar of chocolate of the pint after a long day but the way you need to eat and drink to live. This is ‘Only Revolutions.’

Biffy Clyro have arrived. After steadily coming to the boil over the past 15 years away from the public’s gaze, the Ayrshire trio have now exploded into the spectrum of the mainstream and ‘Only Revolutions’ is going to leave a huge crater.

Since ‘Puzzle’ back in 2007, the need for more has been a long and sometimes frustrating affair. Marmaduke Duke, as good as they were, were still not Biffy. Small appetizers were thrown down to us while the album was in production such as ‘Mountain’ and ‘That Golden Rule.’ This didn’t satisfy though. Not because they weren’t good, the opposite actually, we wanted more!

‘Only Revolutions’ delivers this by the bucket load. After the sneak preview of ‘The Captain’ and the authority that the addition of the brass and strings bring to the already powerful Biffy sound, the rest of the album follows suit and doesn’t ease up, helping to take the band to the next level.

The intensity of previous albums is still there to be heard. ‘That Golden Rule’ and ‘Cloud of Stink’ are perfect examples of this. But when you combine what is bread and butter for any Biffy fan, to the grandeur brass and strings brings to any piece of music, the results are just simply phenomenal.

Yes they are a Guitar based band who happens to have long hair and beards, but that is where the similarities end when it comes to comparing Biffy Clyro to bands such as Kings of Leon or Kasabian. ‘Only Revolutions’ will undoubtedly raise the profile of the band, and rightly so. This album will definitely be up there with the best come the award season, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them headlining one or two festivals in the summer.
