Eternal Twilight Pt.2 – Auction

March 9, 2009 by Rupinder Thandi

cimg2643The Eternal Twilight convention will be an experience many twilighters will cherish forever, mostly due to the wonderful hospitality of the Twilight cast.

Massive events organised this celebration which brought Twilight fans from all over the world. As part of the ticket package fans got to experience guest talks, photoshoots, themed parties and autograph signings.

At the event you could purchase items from the dealers’ room, even though a fair amount of the merchandise was not even Twilight related.

Fans could also purchase raffle tickets to win guest encounters, giving them half an hour chat time with their chosen guest, for £5 a strip (only strips, no single tickets sold).

A pattern of ‘money making’ schemes seemed to be an occurring theme, but this did not even compare to what would follow.

The organisers held an auction in which fans could purchase actual Twilight related items. There were a wide variety of merchandise, most of which is listed below.

Weirdly enough they started by auctioning off Spanish copies of the Twilight saga books – I couldn’t help but think why anyone would like these to begin with, never the less bid so much for them.

cimg2578Many variations of Twilight posters were auctioned, although I would assume if fans wanted these so badly they would have purchased those months ago as the film has been out since December.

Robert Pattinson has rose to recognition due to playing seductive Edward Cullen in the franchise, so it was no surprise numerous copies of autographed photos of him were popular amongst fans.
Yet during the convention all these fans actually received autographs personally from all the guests, surely this is more meaningful? Also it is guaranteed you are not getting a copy of an original.

The tipping point of madness would have been when they started to auction the display posters of the themed parties scattered around the venue. One may think if you wanted it so badly, you would have torn it off the wall when no-one was looking.

Although some fans had their heads screwed on, as they later said online they had purchased some of those items for much less on EBay or play.com, like the small posters and keyrings.

Strangely enough, the highest bidding item was a copy of Breaking Dawn signed by Stephenie Meyer. Even though the convention revolves around the film aspect, it was nice to see the source of the Twilight phenomena, as the most desired item.

cimg2577More so an experience than a piece of merchandise, the one thing that was priceless, especially to Emma-Leigh Gallivant was a dance with Peter Facinelli, the doctor himself at the prom party. This dance went for £300.

As the bidding of fans still remained wild, one of the organisers said to his partner ‘we can get another dance out of Peter, right?’ which they then auctioned another dance opportunity with him, this time round going for £240.

It seems as though many Twilight fans have not been affected by the recession. This was no doubt an experience of how far fans will go in the spur of the moment consumed by excitement and passion.
